    Dee’s Tip:
To make a traditional miso soup, you will need miso paste but also need a stock for the soup base.
The most common is dashi stock made with bonito stock, but in case you don’t have any on hand, a good substitute would be any bouillon. Chicken stock also works well and often used to make nabes (hot pots).
Veggies depend on the region. Your basic restaurant style would have seaweed, diced tofu and sliced green onions, but a simple home version looks more like a soupy veggie stew with cubed cabbage, onions, and carrots.
Don’t overload your soup! One heaping table spoon is enough to make a small pot of soup. And remember to dissolve the stock in the water. Don’t just drop it or it can remain in chunks.
